Overview

Service Electric Company is a rapidly expanding firm specializing in transmission, distribution, substation, storm restoration, and technical services. The Field Mechanic role involves inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a fleet of construction vehicles and heavy equipment to ensure safety and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on commercial vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using appropriate tools.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair aerial lift systems and related components.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance services to minimize downtime.
  • Respond to field service calls and perform on-site repairs.
  • Travel with storm crews as needed.
  • Ensure all vehicles meet DOT, OSHA, and company safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate service records and inspection reports.
  • Coordinate with operations and fleet management to prioritize repairs.
  • Manage parts inventory and communicate parts needs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required; technical or trade school certification preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience working on commercial vehicles or heavy equipment.
  • Experience with hydraulic systems and aerial equipment strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel and gas engines, electrical systems, and diagnostics.
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to read and interpret manuals, schematics, and technical documents.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Good interpersonal skills and self-motivated.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently with good time management.

  • Regular presence in shop settings and active construction field environments.
  • Ability to traverse rough terrain and access construction work zones.
  • Ability to lift up to 50+ pounds and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Frequent standing, bending, climbing, and working at heights.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekend work, and on-call availability for emergency repairs.
