Overview

The Maintenance Welder/Fabricator provides welding and fabricating expertise to perform mechanical repairs in processing facilities, ensuring food products are processed according to quality specifications and customer needs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical repairs to processing equipment that produces food products.
  • Utilize welding skills including oxy-acetylene cutting and welding, copper pipe soldering, stick welding, and TIG welding.
  • Draft and layout equipment conveyors and guards for various processing equipment.
  • Work with hydraulic systems including motors, pumps, and valves.
  • Interpret pneumatic schematics and work with pneumatic components.
  • Understand electrical systems including single and three-phase power.
  • Use industrial shop tools such as grinders, band saws, and drill presses.
  • Assist team members in completing work and communicate effectively.
  • Adhere to safety standards and participate in discussions about confidential matters.
  • Work flexible schedules as required.

Requirements

  • Experience in fabrication and TIG welding.
  • Previous work experience as a mechanic in food processing or fish processing plants is desired.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Knowledge of production line and packing processes is a plus.
  • Sanitary welding experience and pressure vessel certification are beneficial.

Additional Information

  • Full-time position working 5 days a week, with some weekends required.
  • Expected hours of work are from 7 AM to 3:30 PM.
  • Local travel is required.

What you'll be running

This posting calls for TIG and Stick work. TIG (GTAW) uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode with filler added by hand, giving the operator the most control of any process. It is slow, demanding, and the standard for stainless, aluminum, and anything where the bead has to look as good as it holds. Stick (SMAW) burns a flux-coated consumable rod and needs no shielding gas, so it works in wind, rain, and on dirty or rusted steel. That tolerance for bad conditions keeps it the default for field, structural, and repair work.
