Overview

The Plumber position within Facilities Management at the University aims to support the campus environment by maintaining and improving infrastructure through efficient service. The role involves performing a full range of plumbing functions under the direction of a manager or supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, repair, design, modify, and alter campus infrastructure.
  • Assemble, install, and repair pipes and fittings for heating, water, and drainage systems.
  • Cut and thread pipes using pipe cutters and cutting torch.
  • Install and repair plumbing fixtures.
  • Perform backflow testing on various plumbing systems.
  • Operate, inspect, and maintain plumbing tools.
  • Perform finish plumbing and trim work.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and develop layouts.
  • Clean up job sites and ensure safety practices are observed.
  • Communicate job-related problems to supervisory levels.

Requirements

  • Completion of a certified 4-year trade-related apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated skill and experience in domestic, industrial, commercial, or process piping.
  • Thorough knowledge of plumbing materials, equipment, methods, and tools.
  • Skill in conducting tests on water, air, and natural gas lines.
  • Ability to safely operate plumbing tools and equipment.
  • Oral communication skills to convey clear information.
  • Skill in estimating material and labor requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and blueprints.
  • Ability to troubleshoot piping systems for damage or adjustments.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs and work in various conditions.
  • Knowledge of current plumbing codes and safety regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain cooperative relationships.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and asbestos removal.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and various shifts.

  • Work schedule is from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM.
  • Background check and physical examination are required for employment.
  • Candidates must be 18 years or older.
