Job Description

Overview

Apex is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer, Payloads to join their satellite engineering team, responsible for the mechanical design, integration, and testing of payload hardware across spacecraft programs. The company focuses on manufacturing satellite buses at scale to meet the increasing demand for commercial spacecraft platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical designs and 3D models for payload hardware and supporting components.
  • Own mechanical payload integration from concept through design, manufacturing, assembly, and test.
  • Define and manage mechanical interfaces between payloads and spacecraft structures.
  • Perform structural analysis to ensure payload hardware meets requirements.
  • Optimize designs for mass, manufacturability, and spacecraft-level performance.
  • Develop detailed engineering drawings, GD&T, and hardware specifications.
  • Evaluate and select materials, fasteners, and manufacturing processes for flight hardware.
  • Collaborate with various engineering teams to resolve integration challenges.
  • Support hardware fabrication and resolve issues with manufacturing and suppliers.
  • Support hands-on assembly, integration, and testing of payload and spacecraft hardware.
  • Develop and execute environmental testing, including vibration and thermal vacuum testing.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues during manufacturing and integration.
  • Prepare and participate in design and test readiness reviews.
  • Maintain engineering documentation, including design changes and test reports.

Requirements

  • U.S. Person status is required to access export controlled data.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience designing and developing mechanical hardware.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for 3D modeling and drafting.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design fundamentals.
  • Experience developing engineering drawings and applying GD&T.
  • Strong hands-on problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
