Overview

The Welder 1 position at Greenbrier involves performing quality welding of parts and fixtures in the railcar manufacturing process, utilizing various welding equipment. Responsibilities

• Fits, aligns and clamps railcar parts to prepare for welding.
• Cleans and preps surface area to be welded using designated tools.
• Performs manual or semi-automatic arc welding of railcar parts.
• Follows weld procedures outlined in Standard Operating Procedures.
• Visually inspects welds and repairs defective welds.
• Performs occasional air, arc or flame cutting to repair defective welds.
• Ensures safety and housekeeping standards are met.

Requirements

• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to work independently or with a team.
• Ability to complete and pass weld qualifications testing after training.
• High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience using a manual or semi-automatic arc welder preferred.
• Experience operating a forklift or overhead crane preferred.
• Experience working in a production environment preferred.
• Ability to learn to operate a forklift and overhead crane.

Additional Information

• Work environment includes heat/cold, wet/humid, dry/arid, dusty conditions, noise, and moving machinery.
• Personal protective equipment is required, including hard hats and safety shoes.
• Employees may need to work at heights above four feet or in confined spaces.
