Overview

Southwest Shipyard, LP is a company that provides various marine services including gas freeing, cleaning, repair, and new construction. The Welder (SMAW) position involves using electrical currents to fuse metals for repairs or new components.

Responsibilities

  • Grind barge & boat repair areas and external surface areas in preparation for welding.
  • Weld barge & boat repair areas and specialty components with the required number of passes for full penetration welds.
  • Operate welding & grinding equipment to accomplish weld & repair duties.
  • Pass a welding test to obtain internal skill classification.
  • Communicate and take directions from Foreman & Supervisor.
  • Arrive to work on time and work overtime hours as required.
  • Understand general policies and procedures as described in the quality & environmental manuals.
  • Undergo a training program and participate in refresher training as needed.
  • Obtain or be eligible for a TWIC card.

Requirements

  • Proficient in English; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to multitask, learn quickly, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to understand Company Quality Manual and procedures.
  • Ability to manage time and tasks effectively.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

  • Day Shift: 6:00am - 3:30pm
  • Night Shift: 3:30pm - 12:00am (Midnight)
