Overview

As a Welder (HVAC Piping) at Modigent, you'll utilize specialized welding skills to fabricate, install, and repair piping systems for commercial HVAC and mechanical applications. Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, fit, align, and install piping systems for HVAC and mechanical applications.
  • Perform high-quality multi-position welding using TIG and Stick processes.
  • Read, interpret, and execute work from complex blueprints and specifications.
  • Measure, cut, bevel, thread, groove, and prepare pipe ends and fittings.
  • Set up, adjust, and maintain welding equipment and perform pre- and post-weld preparations.
  • Inspect materials for defects and ensure proper alignment and joint preparation.
  • Conduct visual inspections and non-destructive testing on completed welds.
  • Install, repair, and modify valves, flanges, hangers, and related piping accessories.
  • Identify and correct improper fit-ups and material issues.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Document work as required and support project closeout.
  • Travel to project sites as assigned, including out-of-town jobs.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of verifiable pipe welding experience, preferably in HVAC or mechanical contracting.
  • High school diploma or GED required; trade school or apprenticeship preferred.
  • AWS Certified Welder or equivalent qualification preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and work in confined spaces or at heights.
  • Proficiency in TIG and Stick welding processes on various materials.
  • Advanced blueprint and technical interpretation skills.
  • Knowledge of welding symbols and codes, material properties, and preparation techniques.
  • Attention to detail, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.

What you'll be running

This posting calls for TIG and Stick work. TIG (GTAW) uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode with filler added by hand, giving the operator the most control of any process. It is slow, demanding, and the standard for stainless, aluminum, and anything where the bead has to look as good as it holds. Stick (SMAW) burns a flux-coated consumable rod and needs no shielding gas, so it works in wind, rain, and on dirty or rusted steel. That tolerance for bad conditions keeps it the default for field, structural, and repair work.
