Overview

Metro’s mission is to provide a world-class transportation system that enhances the quality of life for all who live, work, and play within LA County. The Warranty and Equipment Mechanic assists in identifying defects and processing warranty claims, providing input for technical specifications of new buses and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Investigates and tests new bus malfunctions and parts failures.
  • Instructs Division mechanics during campaign modifications.
  • Assists in the development of design modifications for new buses and vehicular equipment.
  • Assists in the inspection of buses and related equipment at manufacturing sites and Metro property.
  • Assists in developing technical specifications for equipment purchases.
  • Prepares written correspondence and reports in support of warranty claims and relating to other work performed.
  • Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out.

Requirements

  • 4 years' experience as a heavy equipment or automotive mechanic with at least 2 years as a bus mechanic.
  • Successful completion of a six month full-time training program from an accredited school in automotive/truck maintenance and repair may be substituted for up to 2 years non-bus experience.
  • Current and verifiable full ASE (H) Series Transit Certifications in H1-CNG, H3-Drive Train, H4-Brakes, H5-Suspension/Steering, H6-Electrical/Electronics is desirable.
  • Valid California Class A driver's license.

Additional Information

  • Exam components are projected to be scheduled for the week of October 12, 2026 and interviews are projected for the week of October 26, 2026.
  • Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and personal protective gear.
  • Must provide own tools of the trade.
  • Positions in this classification are considered safety sensitive under Federal Transit Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol regulations.
