Overview

The Welding Inspector will oversee and ensure quality assurance during welding operations on various construction projects, including bridge construction and seismic retrofitting. The role requires extensive experience and certifications in welding inspection.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Department Section Heads, Area Supervisors, or consultant Construction Managers in welding operations.
  • Review Welding Quality Control Plans prepared by contractors.
  • Perform welding quality assurance inspections to verify compliance with contract documents.
  • Review Welding Reports prepared by contractors.

Requirements

  • Current American Welding Society Certification as a Certified Welding Inspector or Senior Certified Welding Inspector.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in welding inspection.
  • Current International Code Council (ICC) Welding Certificate.
  • Current ICC High Strength Bolting Certificate.
  • Familiarity with welding codes from AWS, ASME, API, and AWWA.
  • Knowledge of Caltrans Standard Specifications and Standard Special Provisions related to welding.
  • Previous inspection or trade experience in welding on bridge construction or seismic retrofit projects.
