Overview

Arizona State University (ASU) is seeking a Utility Piping Specialist to assist with steam infrastructure and the installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing systems. This position requires skilled craftsmanship in utility piping systems and is located on the ASU Tempe campus, with potential work at other campus locations.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, including performing complex and precision work related to utility piping systems.
  • Locate, repair, and replace malfunctioning parts using hand and power tools.
  • Inspect mechanical system components and use soldering and brazing tools for precision techniques.
  • Work with drawings and specifications.
  • Install and maintain sprinkler systems.
  • Install and repair water lines and drain lines.
  • Prioritize work based on critical needs assessment.
  • Assist other trades as needed.
  • Use clear communication to perform essential functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and three years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field.
  • Four years of plumbing and/or mechanical-pipefitting systems experience or completion of a four-year federally approved technical training program in plumbing.
  • Experience in studying plans, drawings, specifications, and work orders.
  • Knowledge of welding standards as defined by current trade practice.
  • Knowledge of the mechanical operation of equipment such as pumps, boilers, cooling towers, and chillers.
  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials common to plumbing and welding trades.
  • Experience in installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing and utility piping systems.
  • Experience in design, fabrication, joining, and repair of metals, piping, equipment, and structures.
  • Evidence of effective communication.

Additional Information

  • Work schedule: Monday – Friday 6:30am – 3:00pm.
  • Position requires working a rotating on-call/stand-by schedule.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license upon employment.
  • Travel throughout campus to various research buildings as needed.
