Overview

The Senior Mechanical Designer 1 - Nuclear Power position at Sargent & Lundy offers a hybrid work schedule and involves working with multi-disciplined engineering teams to develop mechanical layout drawings and solve design issues in nuclear power projects. The role emphasizes the use of 3D modeling software and provides opportunities for mentorship and fieldwork.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical physical layout drawings in a 3-D model.
  • Design mechanical systems and troubleshoot various mechanical design issues.
  • Utilize 3D modeling software tools to generate mechanical design schematics.
  • Act as the Mechanical design team lead for integrated mechanical design models.
  • Coordinate and guide other designers and project team members.
  • Plan and execute design deliverables such as general arrangements and piping isometrics.
  • Conduct field walkdowns and data gathering at client facilities.
  • Mentor less experienced drafters and designers.

Requirements

  • An Associate's Degree in drafting or a high school diploma with 1 or more years of drafting coursework or equivalent technical experience.
  • Ten or more years of detailed physical design experience in mechanical general arrangements and piping systems.
  • Proficiency with design software tools for 3D plant layout models.
  • Experience in reviewing mechanical equipment and developing associated deliverables.
  • Ability to interface with engineering and design teams of other disciplines.
