Overview

Welker is a family-owned manufacturing company based in Sugar Land, Texas, with over 70 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. They are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design and customize pressure-containing equipment and mechanical systems for various industrial applications.

Responsibilities

  • Design and modify pressure-containing equipment and mechanical assemblies using SolidWorks
  • Interpret customer specifications, datasheets, and industry requirements to develop compliant design solutions
  • Perform engineering calculations (pressure design, stress analysis, tolerances, material selection)
  • Ensure designs meet applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASME, PED, IECEx, CRN)
  • Create and release detailed drawings, models, routers, and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  • Support product testing, certification, and technical documentation
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, sales, and quality teams
  • Apply design for manufacturability (DFM) principles to improve production efficiency
  • Troubleshoot design issues and contribute to continuous product improvement

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited)
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software
  • Familiar with ASME codes and pressure-containing equipment design
  • Understanding of machining, fabrication, and assembly processes
  • Strong attention to detail with a proactive, ownership mindset
  • 3+ years of mechanical design experience in oil & gas, energy, or industrial manufacturing (preferred)
  • Experience with valves, regulators, or pressure control equipment (preferred)
  • Experience with instrumentation or electrical components (preferred)
  • Experience with engineering calculations (preferred)
  • Familiarity with certification standards (PED, CRN, IECEx) (preferred)
