Overview

General Dynamics NASSCO is seeking Shipfitters J-4 for their Steel Shop in Norfolk, Virginia. This position involves ship construction and repair, with a focus on working with blueprints and ship-related structures.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and complete work with little supervision using blueprints.
  • Be knowledgeable in layout of plates, pipes, and structural shapes.
  • Understand ship-related nomenclature and locate structures in relation to frames and stringers.
  • Know weld symbols and their application for material preparation.
  • Perform tack welding, burning, and use various power tools.
  • Make templates for fabrications and installations of ship structures.
  • Assemble foundations, deck houses, and specialized structures.

Requirements

  • Must be capable of accessing all Navy installations and other shipyards.
  • Knowledge of 5S guidelines and standard items.

Additional Information

  • There are five openings for 2nd shift - 3PM to 11PM.
  • No security clearance is required.
