Overview

Intuitive Machines is a cutting-edge space company focused on making cislunar space accessible for various customers. The Aerospace Welding Engineer will support welding processes for mission-critical spaceflight hardware, ensuring high reliability and compliance with program requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, qualify, release, and maintain welding procedures and supporting documentation.
  • Serve as the technical authority for welding of flight and ground-support hardware.
  • Review engineering drawings, weld symbols, specifications, and material callouts.
  • Establish and control essential process variables and environmental controls.
  • Evaluate weld metallurgy, distortion, residual stress, and defect mechanisms.
  • Define inspection and acceptance plans in partnership with Quality and NDE personnel.
  • Lead weld-related nonconformance investigations and develop corrective actions.
  • Support fracture-critical and pressure-system hardware reviews and production readiness.
  • Provide shop-floor support and train welders, technicians, and engineers.
  • Qualify and monitor external welding suppliers and resolve technical issues.
  • Maintain complete, auditable manufacturing records and traceability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of engineering experience in welding and joining processes for aerospace or high-reliability hardware.
  • Working knowledge of aerospace welding standards and qualification practices.
  • Experience creating and qualifying welding procedures and interpreting qualification records.
  • Strong knowledge of welding metallurgy, joint design, and common weld discontinuities.
  • Hands-on experience with processes such as GTAW, GMAW, and OTW.
  • Proficiency in reading engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Experience leading technical investigations and communicating corrective actions.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

What you'll be running

This posting calls for MIG and TIG work. MIG (GMAW) feeds a continuous wire electrode through a shielding-gas nozzle. It lays down metal fast and is forgiving on clean material, which is why it dominates production and light fabrication work. TIG (GTAW) uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode with filler added by hand, giving the operator the most control of any process. It is slow, demanding, and the standard for stainless, aluminum, and anything where the bead has to look as good as it holds.
