Overview

The Mechanic B position at National Grid involves performing various mechanical and plumbing tasks, including installation, repairs, and maintenance of equipment and systems. The role requires a valid driver's license and offers a pay rate of $36.50 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Direct work of one or two assistants.
  • Layout, run or erect pipelines and/or tubing from prints or sketches.
  • Cut and flare tubing using machines and hand dies.
  • Make up screwed flanged, lead, cement or soldered joints.
  • Perform simple plumbing installations and repairs including pipe bends.
  • Overhaul and repair pipeline accessories and equipment.
  • Fabricate and install hangers and supports for pipes and heaters.
  • Install metal reinforcing pipe and miscellaneous steel assemblies.
  • Use gas welding equipment for cutting, heating or soldering.
  • Perform inspections, adjustments, repairs, and maintenance on equipment.
  • Run ordinary power and lighting circuits.
  • Perform general masonry work including concrete and brick work.
  • Overhaul and repair all types of boilers and accessories.
  • Install baffles and repair oil-burning equipment on boilers.
  • Know and use rigging equipment for light loads.
  • Participate in fuel oil delivery and unloading operations as required.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid N.Y. State Driver's license.
  • More than 3 years of experience in this or related work.
  • Ability to work at heights.
  • Must pass a Mechanic skill assessment test.
  • Must participate in federally mandated drug testing programs.
