Overview

Thea Energy is focused on commercializing fusion energy through innovative stellarator technology. They are seeking a Senior Electromechanical Engineer with expertise in Web Handling for Reel-to-Reel processes to lead the development of manufacturing infrastructure for superconducting magnets.

Responsibilities

  • Design hardware and controls for bespoke reel to reel process machines.
  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for machine design related to roll to roll tension control and web handling.
  • Scope and design electromechanical equipment for handling fragile high temperature superconducting tape.
  • Manage external vendors for the fabrication of large-scale equipment.
  • Design and implement advanced in-line inspection systems for continuous manufacturing.
  • Develop long-term strategies for manufacturing throughput and implement automated solutions.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.
  • 8+ years of experience in electromechanical design and commissioning of complex reel-to-reel equipment.
  • Expertise with Beckhoff/TwinCAT 3, EtherCAT, and structured text programming.
  • Expertise in 3D CAD (NX preferred) and FEA or multibody dynamics simulation.
  • Ability to solve 'first-of-a-kind' engineering challenges.
