MICA Steelworks

Overview

MICA Steelworks builds steel structures for the grid, including tapered tubular transmission poles and substation A-frames. Fitters are essential craftsmen who lay out, position, and fit steel for welders, ensuring quality fit-ups for ultrasonic inspection.

Responsibilities

• Perform fitting and joining, fabricating, and repairing of metal to blueprint specifications.
• Perform set-ups using jigs/fixtures or hand layouts to fabricate parts.
• Locate long seams and number pole shafts correctly; check twist and camber.
• Trim pole shafts square and pop chalk lines for true centers.
• Lay out and fit base plates, flange plates, vangs, brackets, and other parts.
• Fabricate multi-component parts and verify conformance using measuring tools.
• Operate overhead and jib cranes, hoists, slings, grinders, and hand/power tools safely.
• Maintain equipment functionality and notify management of needed repairs.
• Cross-train and perform other job tasks as assigned.
• Manage time efficiently to meet production standards and maintain housekeeping.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read a tape measure to 1/16" and perform shop math.
• Ability to pass the MICA NewHire Fitter Assessment.
• Ability to work 1st or 2nd shift and overtime as needed.
• Ability to work in a shop environment with seasonal temperature extremes.
• Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to work in a team.
• Successfully pass background check, drug screen, physical, audiogram, and vision test.

Additional Information

• 2nd shift: Monday-Thursday, 5:30 PM-5:00 AM; Friday, 3:30 PM-2:00 AM, with Saturday as needed.
• Expected hours: 40-55 hours per week; overtime paid per policy.
