Overview

The Ultrasonic Welding Inspector is responsible for ensuring product quality through ultrasonic inspection methods, which detect defects in materials without causing harm. This role involves visual inspection of welded joints and compliance with specifications, working closely with the QA/QC team.

Responsibilities

• Perform visual inspection of welded joints at the assigned plant.
• Ensure fabricated steel is welded as planned and meets customer specifications.
• Report and maintain inspection results, preparing documentation for customer certification.
• Conduct in-process weld inspections on poles and heavy structural steel assemblies.
• Monitor and execute activities to ensure inspections meet applicable specifications and codes.
• Read new project specifications and interpret drawings and customer standards.
• Assist the Quality Control Manager in administering the AISC program.
• Organize inspection work with other QA/QC inspectors on a daily and weekly basis.
• Identify and solve quality nonconformances in a timely manner.
• Assist shop employees with QC questions and clarifications.
• Work with QA/QC team to implement and follow the quality control program.
• Address quality issues related to nonconforming materials and maintain production flow.

Requirements

• 3-5 years of experience in welding heavy steel assemblies, preferably in an inspection role.
• In-depth ability to read and understand shop drawings, especially weld symbols.
• Basic knowledge of AISC and AWS national codes.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement techniques desired.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Must pass a background check, including criminal history, drug screen, physical, audiogram, and vision test.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Level II certification in U.T. or M.T. with required documentation.
• Documentation of successful completion of required academic hours of training signed by an accredited level III instructor.
• Signed proof of logged minimum experience hours for certification as required by A.S.N.T. TC 1A or C.P. 189.

Additional Information

• Manufacturing floor/shop and general office environment.
• Occasional travel by automobile may be required.
• Subject to seasonal weather conditions and exposure to shop hazards.
• This position is not eligible for relocation benefits.
