Job Description
Overview
As a Fire Sprinkler Fitter, you will install, test, maintain, and repair fire sprinkler systems to protect life and property. This role requires strong mechanical skills, attention to safety, and the ability to work on construction sites and in occupied buildings.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, hydraulic calculations, and shop drawings to determine system layout and material requirements.
- Assemble, cut, thread, fit, and install sprinkler pipe, fittings, hangers, valves, and sprinkler heads for new installations and retrofits.
- Install branch lines, risers, riser clamps, escutcheons, and wall plates; install and connect system components to water supplies and fire pumps as required.
- Perform hydrostatic and operational testing, conduct inspections, and troubleshoot system issues to ensure compliance with NFPA standards and local codes.
- Coordinate with general contractors, site supervisors, inspectors, and other trades to schedule work and ensure timely completion of projects.
- Maintain accurate installation, test, and inspection records, and complete required documentation for commissioning and regulatory compliance.
- Follow company and jobsite safety procedures, use proper PPE, and participate in safety meetings; perform work in confined spaces and at heights when necessary.
- Maintain tools and equipment, report and assist with ordering materials, and keep job sites clean and organized.
- Provide mentorship and on-the-job training to apprentices and junior fitters as needed.
- Respond to service calls for emergency repairs and system maintenance when required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED; completion of a relevant apprenticeship, technical school program, or equivalent experience in fire protection or pipefitting.
- 2+ years of experience installing and maintaining fire sprinkler systems preferred; experience on commercial, industrial or multi-family residential projects a plus.
- Working knowledge of NFPA standards (including NFPA 13, 13R, 13D and NFPA 25) and familiarity with local fire codes and inspection requirements.
- Proficient with installation techniques for fire sprinkler systems, including threading, grooving, welding (or brazing), hangers and seismic bracing.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings and hydraulic calculations.
- Certifications preferred: NICET, State/Local fire sprinkler fitter license, CPR/First Aid, OSHA 10/30.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation; ability to travel to multiple job sites.
- Physically able to lift heavy materials, work in confined spaces, climb ladders, and work at heights for extended periods.
- Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and commitment to workplace safety.
- Familiarity with fire sprinkler system testing and maintenance procedures and experience performing hydrostatic and flow testing.

- You must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship for a non-immigrant visa.
