Overview

The Operating Engineer at Kaiser Permanente performs routine and skilled preventive maintenance duties in the repair, alteration, and modification of buildings, equipment, and facilities under general supervision.

Responsibilities

• Upholds Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures and applicable laws.
• Inspects equipment and facilities for proper operation and working condition.
• Maintains routine records and determines the type and extent of any malfunction of equipment.
• Adjusts, disassembles, repairs or replaces parts, reassembles, and tests for proper operation.
• Reports serious problems to the Chief Engineer for instructions or maintenance scheduling.
• May attend to gas fired steam boilers, hot water boilers, and heaters.
• Makes necessary adjustments to assure proper steam pressure, combustion, water flow, and water level.
• Tests boiler water and adds chemicals as necessary.
• Services and repairs heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
• Replaces filters and fluids as necessary and maintains routine records of repairs.
• Performs general semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, alteration, and repairs to machinery and equipment.
• Performs routine electrical maintenance and replacement of circuit wiring and control equipment.
• Performs general mechanical maintenance of hospital, clinic, and kitchen equipment.
• Performs general plumbing maintenance and repairs to plumbing pipes and fixtures.
• Performs general welding tasks not requiring critical test tolerance.
• Performs routine maintenance duties such as repairing extension cords and replacing fuses.
• Cleans sink and grease traps, replaces valves, and repairs related items.
• Moves supplies, furniture, and equipment, removes trash, and replaces light bulbs.
• Establishes and maintains courteous relations with personnel and the public.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Three to five years of experience in Building Plant Operations and Maintenance.
• Associate of Arts Degree in Engineering or technical disciplines in Plant Operations, HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, or equivalent.
• Steam Engineer Unlimited License (California) or Los Angeles Steam Engineer 500 HP License.
• Drivers License in location where applicable.
• Universal Chlorofluorocarbons Certificate within 6 months of hire.
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge of equipment, controls, and building automation maintenance.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, and technical manuals.
