Overview

GuRu Wireless Inc. is leading the innovation in high frequency RF wireless power transfer systems and is developing long-range wireless power solutions for UAVs. They are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to design, prototype, build, test, and iterate mechanical and electromechanical systems in a fast-paced startup environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical parts and assemblies in 3D CAD, including prototype parts and mechanical structures.
  • Design for 3D printing, CNC machining, and other practical fabrication methods.
  • Perform DFM analysis on existing prototype designs to ensure manufacturability.
  • Prepare CAD models, drawings, STEP/STL files, and maintain version control.
  • Support rapid prototyping using in-house 3D printers and external resources.
  • Design compact assemblies integrating various components including PCBs and connectors.
  • Design thermal solutions and perform basic mechanical and thermal calculations.
  • Evaluate mechanical strength, stiffness, vibration, weight, and thermal performance.
  • Work with electronics and power hardware for safe mechanical integration.
  • Support drone-related mechanical design including frames and mounts.
  • Coordinate with technicians on prototype assembly and test setup.
  • Work with vendors and suppliers to source and fabricate parts.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, thermal, and electrical integration issues.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Person (US Citizen or Permanent Resident).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar tools and strong 3D CAD skills.
  • Good understanding of mechanical design fundamentals.
  • Comfortable with rapid prototyping and hands-on iteration.
  • Basic thermal design understanding.
  • Comfortable working around electronics and integrating designs.
  • Ability to work from incomplete requirements and iterate quickly.
  • Strong attention to detail and practical problem-solving ability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing thermal management systems.
  • Experience with drones, UAVs, and flight hardware.
  • Experience with carbon fiber and lightweight frame design.
  • Experience with power electronics packaging and thermal design.
  • Experience with CNC machining and production DFM.
  • FEA/simulation experience.
  • Experience with test equipment for thermal and mechanical analysis.
  • Experience in a startup or hardware prototyping environment.
  • Experience designing high-reliability products for Aerospace or Automotive industries.
  • Comfortable using open-source and AI tools to optimize designs.
