Overview

The Structural Designer 2 position at Sargent & Lundy offers a hybrid work schedule and involves working with multi-disciplined engineering teams to develop structural design drawings and solve various design issues. The role includes leading design phases, mentoring less experienced team members, and utilizing 3D modeling software.

Responsibilities

  • Develop structural physical layout drawings in a 3-D model.
  • Design structural supports and foundations.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve a variety of structural design issues.
  • Utilize 3D modeling software tools to generate structural design schematics.
  • Act as the structural design team lead in coordinating detailed design phases.
  • Coordinate and provide guidance to other designers and project team members.
  • Plan and execute structural design deliverables independently and as part of a team.
  • Assist senior designers and engineers in field walkdowns and data gathering.
  • Provide guidance as a mentor in the development of less experienced drafters and designers.

Requirements

  • Foundational undergraduate program in a technical area including drafting, or a high school diploma and 1 or more years drafting coursework or equivalent technical experience.
  • Ten (10) or more years of detailed design experience in structural steel and reinforced concrete design drawings.
  • Proficiency with design software tools for executing 3D plant layout models.
  • Experience in reviewing structural layout drawings involving steel frames, connections, concrete members, equipment and piping supports, foundations, and rebar detailing.
  • Ability to interface with engineering and design teams of other disciplines in the power plant design process.
