Overview

The Welder 2 at Greenbrier is responsible for performing quality welding of parts and fixtures in the railcar manufacturing process, including inspecting and repairing welds using various equipment. Greenbrier is a leading designer, manufacturer, and supplier of freight rail transportation equipment and services, committed to safety, quality, and employee engagement.

Responsibilities

• Fits, aligns, and clamps tank car parts to prepare for welding.
• Performs complicated manual or semi-automatic arc welding of railcar parts.
• Operates weld machine, maintaining heat and speed for proper penetration and weld bead size.
• Visually inspects weld work and repairs defective welds.
• Performs minor repairs to equipment and occasional air arc or flame cutting.
• Assists in training other welders by conducting on-the-job training.
• Reads and comprehends blueprints or weld drawings and procedures.
• Ensures safety and housekeeping standards are met.

Requirements

• Ability to pass applicable weld assessments for Welder 2.
• Ability to use weld gauges and computers.
• Ability to read and comprehend blueprints or weld drawings.
• Ability to work in a team.
• Ability to learn to operate a forklift and overhead crane.
• High school education or equivalent.
• One year of experience in production welding.
• Experience operating a forklift.
• Experience operating an overhead crane.

Additional Information

• Work environment includes both indoor and outdoor conditions.
• Employees must wear personal protective equipment as required.
• May be required to work at heights above four feet or in confined spaces.
• Some areas may require the use of a respirator.
