Overview

The Welder 2 at Greenbrier is responsible for performing quality welding of parts and fixtures in the railcar manufacturing process, ensuring safety and quality standards are met. Greenbrier is a leading designer, manufacturer, and supplier of freight rail transportation equipment and services, committed to innovation and employee engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Fits, aligns, and clamps tank car parts in jigs and fixtures to prepare for welding.
  • Operates weld machine maintaining heat and speed of travel to assure penetration and weld bead size.
  • Visually inspects weld work and repairs defective welds.
  • Performs minor repairs to equipment and occasional air arc or flame cutting.
  • Assists in training other welders by conducting on-the-job training when requested.
  • Reads and comprehends blueprints or weld drawings and procedures.
  • Ensures that safety and housekeeping standards are met.

Requirements

  • Ability to pass applicable weld assessments to perform work as a welder 2.
  • Ability to use weld gauges and computers.
  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints or weld drawings and procedures.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Ability to learn to operate a forklift and overhead crane.

Additional Information

  • Work environment includes both indoor and outdoor conditions.
  • Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment as environmental conditions dictate.
  • May be required to perform work at heights above four feet or within confined spaces.
