Overview

The Industrial Process Pipefitter is responsible for the layout, fabrication, installation, testing, and maintenance of process piping systems in industrial and manufacturing environments. This traveling role requires adherence to project specifications and applicable codes while ensuring safety around industrial equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Install, assemble, and fit process piping systems including carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, PVC, and other piping materials.
  • Read and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, blueprints, and piping specifications.
  • Lay out pipe routing, determine spool locations, and verify field dimensions.
  • Cut, bevel, thread, groove, and prepare pipe using appropriate hand tools and power equipment.
  • Fit up valves, pumps, tanks, heat exchangers, and other process equipment.
  • Install pipe supports, hangers, brackets, and anchors according to project and code requirements.
  • Perform equipment setting, rigging, and alignment activities.
  • Assist pipe welders with fit-up and quality control of welded piping systems.
  • Conduct hydrostatic and pressure testing of piping systems.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations and site safety requirements.
  • Coordinate work activities with other trades and team members.
  • Troubleshoot and repair existing process piping systems.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in industrial pipe fitting.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, blueprints, and piping specifications.
  • Hands-on skills in cutting, beveling, threading, grooving, and preparing pipe.
  • Proficiency in installing carbon steel and stainless steel piping systems.
  • Capability to install and fit valves, pumps, tanks, heat exchangers, and other process equipment.
  • Knowledge of installing pipe supports, hangers, brackets, and anchors.
  • Experience performing hydrostatic and pressure testing of piping systems.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and industrial safety practices.
  • Ability to coordinate work with other trades.
  • Troubleshooting skills for identifying and repairing issues in existing process piping systems.
