Overview

The Welder/Fabricator position involves providing properly welded steel parts to a variety of internal and external customers. The role requires setting up welding machines, operating positioners, and ensuring weld quality according to specifications.

Responsibilities

• Set up welding machine according to Resource Instructions.
• Mount tacked assembly into weld positioner with powered hoist.
• Operate the positioner and weld the assembly as specified on blueprints, work instructions, and/or work order travelers.
• Strike arc generating heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode along weld line.
• Examine weld for bead size, porosity, undercut, overlap, and other specifications.
• Operate jib and overhead cranes and hoists in a safe and approved manner.
• Clean or degrease weld area using wire brush, powered grinder, or chemical bath.
• Repair parts requiring weld gouging with air arc or grinding prior to welding.
• Chip off excess weld and splatter using hand scraper or powered chipper.
• Peen welds between passes using powered hammer.
• Cut plates with air-arc or oxy-acetylene torch.
• Tack parts into assembly prior to welding.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, safety rules, and procedure manuals.
• Legible handwriting is required.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions.
• Knowledge of Manufacturing software.
