Overview

Black Hills Energy is a purpose-driven utility company that serves over one million customers across the West and Midwest. They are seeking a Welder 1 to be responsible for the installation and maintenance of gas pipeline-related facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and inspect pipeline and structural welding for construction and maintenance of Company facilities.
  • Install, relocate, replace, maintain, and repair gas lines.
  • Provide oversight and inspection to ensure compliance with company procedures during excavation activities near pipeline facilities.
  • Act as Company representative during construction activities and report progress to Operations Management.
  • Be available for emergency response and participate in on-call rotation after regular business hours.
  • Train and oversee company and second party personnel as required.
  • Perform governmental compliance activities.
  • Complete mapping, documentation, record keeping, and data entry duties.
  • Identify, report, and correct safety and environmental concerns.
  • Participate in the development of O&M Procedures and project scopes.
  • Perform all work in compliance with Company Standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Advance to subsequent levels via completion of applicable OQs and certifications.
  • Travel within and occasionally out of the geographic region as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate's Degree of Applied Science in Welding or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to work with a team and take direction from supervisors.
  • Work from job-related blueprints, sketches, and diagrams.
  • Operate micrometers, calipers, and thickness testing equipment.
  • Operate all plastic fusion equipment for maintenance and emergency on plastic pipelines.
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and high level of performance.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • API 1104 welding certification preferred, must obtain related certifications within 180 days of hire.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Class A CDL License required within specified timeframes.
