Overview

The Pipefitter is responsible for assembling, installing, and maintaining piping systems in various settings. This role requires interpreting blueprints and ensuring compliance with safety standards while collaborating with other tradespeople.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the layout of piping systems.
  • Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe using hand and power tools.
  • Assemble and install a variety of metal and nonmetal pipes, tubes, and fittings.
  • Inspect, examine, and test installed systems and pipelines using various methods.
  • Repair and maintain piping systems by replacing defective components.
  • Ensure all systems are properly supported and comply with relevant codes.
  • Perform welding and soldering of pipes and fittings as required.
  • Fabricate piping assemblies using various welding and cutting techniques.
  • Ensure welds are clean, secure, and meet industry standards.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety procedures.
  • Stay informed about and comply with all relevant codes and regulations.
  • Collaborate with other tradespeople and construction teams.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
  • Maintain and manage tools and equipment.
  • Keep an inventory of tools, materials, and supplies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a pipefitting apprenticeship program is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in pipefitting or a related trade.
  • Proficiency in using pipefitting tools and equipment.
  • Strong understanding of blueprints, schematics, and piping system layouts.
  • Relevant certifications, such as ASME Pipefitter Certification, are highly desirable.
  • Ability to work in various environments, including confined spaces and heights.
  • Physical strength and stamina to perform tasks that involve lifting and manual dexterity.
