Overview

The Corner Welder II - 2nd Shift is a shop hourly position focused on performing water-tight corner and connection welds on various types of sheet metal. The role requires a high level of proficiency in welding fabrication and the ability to work independently while adhering to safety standards and production goals.

Responsibilities

  • Own personal and team safety by observing all safety rules and using proper safety equipment.
  • Interpret BAC shop documents and perform cut-out operations using plasma cutting on galvanized and stainless steel panels.
  • Weld water-tight corner and connection welds on galvanized and stainless steel using MIG welding procedures.
  • Meet FPY requirements as stated in Class C Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ).
  • Maintain accuracy of work and adhere to scheduled break periods to avoid loss of production time.
  • Assist and train junior mechanics as assigned.
  • Continuously grow skills and expertise to flex to various workstations.
  • Meet or exceed production goals for the shift.
  • Ensure consistent knowledge of and compliance with quality standards.
  • Commit to achieving departmental safety goals.
  • Maintain and sustain 5's in the department.
  • Fulfill the role of MI senior mechanic in the absence of the designated person.
  • Embrace sustainability in individual activities to minimize environmental impact.
  • Support a culture of innovation through original thinking to improve processes.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated competent writing skills to document processes logically.
  • Strong oral communication skills to interact professionally with customers and co-workers.
  • Must pass Class C Welder training and theoretical testing.
  • Ability to demonstrate welding techniques to Class E Corner Welders.
  • Pass practical requirements as stated in Class C Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ).
  • Proficient in MIG welding and plasma cutting processes and equipment.
  • Ability to interpret fabrication sheets and channel parts for operations.
  • Understand and react to job schedules effectively.
  • Read measuring devices such as weld gauges and tape measures.
  • Understand BAC shop documents including submittals and assembly lists.
  • Interpret basic welding symbols and engineering drawings.
  • Identify different welding wires and gases for proper application.
  • Competent in basic math operations including fractions and decimals.
  • Good overall knowledge of BAC products.
  • Flexible and able to adapt quickly to change.
  • Understanding of LEAN principles including 5S and continuous improvement techniques.
  • Familiar with procedures, policies, and standard work instructions.
  • Demonstrated competence in BAC quality procedures.

Additional Information

  • The physical demands include lifting up to 50 lbs and standing for up to 100% of the time.
  • Working hours can include any of three shifts, generally scheduled for forty hours a week, with some weekend overtime expected.
  • Exposure to elevated noise levels and fluctuations in temperature.
