Overview

SpaceX is actively developing technologies to enable human life on Mars. The Lead Welder for the 2nd shift will lead a welding team, support operations, and ensure high-quality welding practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and offer daily support to the welding team.
  • Assist the supervisor in coaching, mentoring, and training team members and contractors.
  • Report status and issues to leadership and customers through emails and updates.
  • Support leadership in de-escalation of conflict and enforcing quality standards.
  • Complete welding assignments and procedures safely and professionally.
  • Coordinate work with support groups such as flight control and engineering.
  • Collaborate with welding leadership to assess weld procedures and materials.
  • Analyze engineering drawings to plan welding operations.
  • Obtain and maintain necessary licenses and certifications.
  • Continuously improve operations and streamline work processes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • 7+ years of experience with SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, or FCAW.
  • Experience as a combo welder with the ability to fabricate and weld various structures.
  • Experience leading a team or project.
  • Knowledge of standard tools and practices of the welding trade.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Experience in operating overhead cranes and forklifts.
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to adapt to changing roles in a high-paced environment.

Additional Information

  • Anticipated hours are 1:30 PM – 12:30 AM.
  • Schedule varies depending on site operational needs; flexibility required.
  • Ability to work at elevated heights with appropriate safety equipment.
  • Work in extreme outdoor environments and exposure to fumes and noise.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Must be able to work overtime and weekends as needed.
