Overview

The Welder position involves planning, layout, and fitting work for the construction, maintenance, and repair of equipment and structures, utilizing various welding techniques and materials.

Responsibilities

  • Perform planning, layout, and fitting work for equipment and structures.
  • Conduct sheet metal work with 30 to 16 gauge metals including galvanized iron, stainless steel, tin, copper, lead, zinc, and aluminum.
  • Determine appropriate welding techniques and select proper materials.
  • Construct elbows of various degrees and sizes up to 48 inches in diameter.
  • Ensure timely ordering and delivery of materials to work sites.
  • Perform pressure work related to steam lines and boilers subject to Coast Guard inspection.
  • Utilize templates and heavy shop machines and equipment for welding tasks.

Requirements

  • Must complete a suitability or fitness determination based on a background investigation.
  • Requires pre-employment and annual physical.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • No specific length of training or experience required, but must demonstrate sufficient knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to perform welding tasks without more than normal supervision.

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
  • Selection is subject to restrictions from the Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
  • Duty location is wherever the Dredge Jadwin is located.
