Overview

The Over-the-Road Chassis Mechanic performs mobile inspections and repairs to ensure container chassis are safe and road-ready, including diagnosing and repairing brakes, tires, and chassis components, as well as performing welding and minor container repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform FMCSA chassis inspections and identify roadability issues.
  • Diagnose and repair chassis components, including brakes, tires, wheel seals, and dolly legs.
  • Perform MIG and/or ARC welding and torch cutting as needed.
  • Complete minor container repairs.
  • Perform repairs according to estimates and established repair guidelines.
  • Maintain parts inventory and communicate inventory or workload concerns to management.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and PPE requirements.
  • Work independently while meeting productivity and quality expectations.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of chassis, trailer, or related mechanical repair experience.
  • At least 1 year of MIG and/or ARC welding experience.
  • Experience with minor container repairs preferred.
  • Working knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, AAR, and IICL requirements.
  • Ability to use standard mechanical, welding, and repair tools.
  • Ability to read and follow repair instructions and established procedures.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to meet applicable FMCSA requirements and pass a DOT physical.
  • Ability to successfully complete required pre-employment screening.

  • Work environment is outdoors with potential for extreme heat or cold conditions.
  • Frequently required to lift objects up to 75 lbs.
  • Routine exposure to loud noises.
  • Proper handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
