Overview

The College of DuPage is a community college located 27 miles west of downtown Chicago, dedicated to student success and inclusivity. The Carpenter position involves performing various carpentry and building maintenance tasks under direct supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Perform carpentry and building maintenance tasks including demolishing, constructing, and installing.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches.
  • Provide material lists for projects and tasks.
  • Coordinate daily work with end users, subcontractors, and other facilities staff.
  • Install, remove, secure, and repair windows and window coverings.
  • Handle all carpentry-related tasks during in-house remodeling projects.
  • Install and maintain various types of doors, door frames, locks, and door hardware.
  • Patch and finish drywall and other wall and ceiling systems.
  • Install and repair commercial flooring systems.
  • Participate in snow removal operations.
  • Build and install structures, cabinetry, tables, workstations, countertops, bookcases, and signage.
  • Maintain, install, assemble, and move office and classroom furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Perform masonry and concrete repairs to both interior and exterior surfaces.
  • Use carpentry hand tools and shop machinery.
  • Work with painters and apply paints, stains, and coatings to surfaces.
  • Cross-train coworkers on various types of equipment and tasks.
  • Install, repair, and remove plumbing fixtures and associated lines.
  • Assist Grounds section staff as needed.
  • Work under the direction of the college locksmith for related projects.
  • Report to work during emergency conditions and perform necessary duties.
  • Lift heavy items and work at significant heights.
  • Create and complete daily work orders.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completed college-related courses or apprenticeship preferred.
  • One to two years of experience in carpentry or building maintenance required.
  • Minimally proficient in spoken and written English required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in position duties required.
  • Valid Illinois Driver's License required.
  • Snow removal experience preferred.
