Overview

The Apprentice position at Mount Sinai Morningside involves assisting major trades in maintenance work throughout the hospital complex, including mechanical, electrical, carpentry, and plumbing tasks. The role is part of the Mount Sinai Health System, which is dedicated to providing outstanding patient care and fostering an inclusive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist major trades in various types of maintenance work throughout the hospital complex.
  • Obtain tools, run errands, transport equipment, and assist mechanics with alterations and repairs as instructed.
  • Keep shops clean and ensure areas where repairs are made are left in a clean and safe condition.
  • Perform minor repair work such as clearing stoppages, changing bulbs, and replacing washers as directed by the foreman.
  • Assist Stationary engineer, Head Mechanic, HVAC or Refrigeration Mechanic in the installation, service, and/or repair of industrial/commercial boilers or related plant equipment.
  • Record temperature and pressure readings of all plant equipment.
  • Assemble, disassemble, test, and repair components such as motors, controls, switches, gauges, valves, pumps, and pipes.
  • Advise the supervisor of any operational deficiencies and necessary maintenance and repair supplies needed.
  • Carry out emergency duties when necessary.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients.
  • Attend and complete required hours of Related Instruction satisfactorily.
  • Maintain accurate work records and training to develop into a skilled craftsman.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Three years of formal education, each year consisting of a minimum of 300 hours of formal training.
  • Must have or obtain a refrigeration license within 90 days of employment.

Additional Information

  • Full-time position with a schedule of 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
  • Probationary period not to exceed sixty days.
