Overview

The Project Engineer - Defense, New Product position focuses on designing and developing vacuum and heat exchanger equipment for submarines and surface ships, requiring end-to-end engineering from concept to manufacture and extensive customer interaction.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate engineering activities to develop new vacuum and heat exchanger equipment from concept through manufacture.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, customers, vendors, and stakeholders to establish technical scope and requirements.
  • Support cross-functional coordination to ensure effective communication of engineering objectives and project requirements.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with stakeholders throughout the engineering and development process.
  • Plan and implement engineering objectives within established timelines and work schedules.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, reports, procedures, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Provide timely and accurate technical communication regarding engineering activities and project results.
  • Notify personnel when timelines cannot be met and communicate alternate plans.
  • Develop novel engineering solutions by combining innovative ideas with proven methods.
  • Define problems, collect and analyze data, and develop effective engineering solutions.
  • Apply engineering judgment and mathematical analysis to support design and development activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, designs, and methods.
  • Create and interpret technical drawings and 3D CAD models.
  • Perform engineering calculations and analysis to support equipment design and development.
  • Apply technical specifications, standards, and engineering requirements to assigned projects.
  • Support technical corrective actions and address technical requirements with stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling.
  • Ability to work individually or on a team.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain government security clearance.
  • Willingness to work overtime as required.
  • International and domestic travel may be required.
  • Familiarity with Military Standard (MIL-STD) specifications.
  • Experience with NAVSEA Technical Publications.
  • Experience performing engineering calculations.
  • Experience with drawing creation and technical writing.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience with MATLAB and/or Mathcad.
  • Experience with ANSYS (Structural and/or Fluent).
  • Familiarity with ASME BPVC specifications.
  • Familiarity with ASTM specifications.
  • Experience in the heat transfer industry.
  • Experience in the shipbuilding industry.
  • Knowledge of machining and welding.
  • Experience with destructive and non-destructive testing.
  • Experience quoting new and/or repeat work.
  • Experience interfacing with customers and vendors.
  • Project management experience.
