Overview
The Combination Welder at Austin Industrial in Decatur, IL is responsible for joining metal parts, such as pipes and plates, using various welding techniques. The company is employee-owned and engages in diverse construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Uses welding equipment to weld or tack weld pieces together.
- Unites pipes from torch to tanks of oxygen and fuel gas and turns valves to release mixture.
- Adjusts flow of gas and air to reach expected temperature, size, and color of flame.
- Preheats work pieces using a torch for welding or curving.
- Fills holes or corrects mistakes in lead pieces and adjusts metal work pieces.
- Checks the weakness of work pieces and measures them to ensure specifications are met.
- Climbs ladders or works on scaffolds to disassemble textures.
- Signals crane operator to lift large work pieces.
- Uses thermal-cutting equipment to dismount metal assemblies or cut scrap metal.
- Employs hoist, crane, and hand tools to place and protect work pieces.
- Chooses welding locations based on type, thickness, area, and expected temperature of metal.
- Instructs and applies flame or electrodes to work pieces to manipulate metal.
- Joins pieces together and adds metal to develop parts.
Requirements
- No minimum education requirements.
- 3-5 years of Journeyman level experience in welding.
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work for any employer in the United States.
