Overview

This position is located at the Edward Hines Jr. Veterans Hospital in Hines, IL, and involves working with pipes and fittings for various plumbing and steam systems. The role requires performing maintenance, repairs, and installations of plumbing fixtures and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Repair, adjust, maintain, and install all types of plumbing and steam fixtures and their allied equipment.
  • Perform new installations of plumbing and steam equipment from layout to finished job.
  • Repair, maintain, adjust, install, and improve all allied equipment for plumbing and heating.
  • Repair, install, and maintain pipe insulation of various materials.
  • Repair, test, and install various types of piping systems using different materials and joint methods.
  • Install, repair, and maintain various types of hospital equipment assigned to the Plumbing Shop.
  • Repair and maintain heating systems including piping, convectors, and circulating pumps.
  • Perform preventive maintenance activities.
  • Fit and install new hospital and laboratory plumbing fixtures.
  • Repair and maintain vacuum pumps, compressed air pumps, and related piping.
  • Maintain stock levels of repair parts and supplies.
  • Order replacement parts and repair materials for the Plumbing Shop.
  • Maintain, repair, test, and install outside plumbing systems.
  • Install and repair gas-fired equipment assigned to the Plumbing Shop.
  • May be assigned to the station's steam production plant for various duties.

Requirements

  • Applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of 09/28/2026.
  • Evidence of training or experience in plumbing and steam systems is required.
  • Qualifications will be evaluated against OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
  • Experience can include paid and unpaid work, including volunteer experience.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry moderately heavy objects (50lbs) and perform physical tasks.
