Overview

This position for a Structural Designer 3 at Sargent & Lundy involves working within a structural design team to create 3-D models and drawings for nuclear power projects. The role includes troubleshooting design issues and mentoring less experienced team members.

Responsibilities

  • Develop structural physical layout drawings in a 3-D model.
  • Design structural supports and foundations.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve a variety of structural design issues.
  • Utilize 3D modeling software tools to generate structural design schematics.
  • Coordinate detailed design phases for an integrated structural design model.
  • Support other designers and project team members for timely design completion.
  • Plan and execute structural design deliverables independently and as part of a team.
  • Assist senior designers and engineers in field walkdowns and data gathering.
  • Provide guidance in the use of drafting tools and mentor less experienced drafters.

Requirements

  • An Associate's Degree in drafting, or a high school diploma with 1 or more years of drafting coursework or equivalent technical experience.
  • Four or more years of detailed design experience in structural steel and reinforced concrete design drawings.
  • Proficiency with design software tools for 3D plant layout models.
  • Experience in Open Building Designer.
  • Experience reviewing structural layout drawings involving steel frames, connections, concrete members, equipment and piping supports, foundations, and rebar detailing.
  • Ability to interface with engineering and design teams of other disciplines in the power plant design process.
