Overview
The CBP Aircraft Composite Specialist is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and modifying aircraft structures and components of moderate difficulty, including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, and fuel systems.
Responsibilities
- Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to determine equipment malfunctions and restore equipment condition.
- Perform daily, flight line, and hangar maintenance on all assigned aircraft.
- Conduct inspections, corrosion control, troubleshooting, and fault isolation on aircraft systems.
- Furnish own hand tools for aircraft maintenance; necessary special tools and test equipment will be provided by Customs.
- Occasionally lead teams through complex aircraft tasks.
- Make entries in aircraft logs and records as required.
- Prioritize workload schedules on assigned projects.
Requirements
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a CBP Background Investigation Suitability clearance; US Citizenship required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Must hold a current airframe and power plant mechanic (A&P) certificate.
- Competent and knowledgeable in the repair and maintenance of airframes, hydraulics, fuel systems, and aircraft engines.
- Broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair.
- Working knowledge of military and general aviation aircraft airframe and engine logbooks.
- Basic knowledge of electrical theory.
- Thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, and micrometers.
- Working knowledge of technical publications.
- Able to follow procedures for handling and disposal of hazardous waste materials.
- Proficient in Office software applications, especially Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to meet deadlines and maintain necessary workflow.
- Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate in English.
