Job Description

Overview

HDR Engineering is seeking a Substation Project Structural Engineer to join their Power Delivery team, contributing to the design and execution of high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects. The role emphasizes collaboration, mentorship, and the advancement of engineering practices in a company committed to creating a positive impact on the world.

Responsibilities

  • Execute structural engineering tasks for various substation structural members.
  • Perform foundation design tasks for substation structures using industry standard software.
  • Prepare and/or review specifications for construction and materials.
  • Assign project tasks to EITs and provide technical guidance to non-structural project team members.
  • Conduct quality checks and reviews for project deliverables per HDR Quality Management Systems requirements.
  • Collaborate with other engineers to develop and maintain standards.
  • Mentor and train EITs and Designers.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently while collaborating with teams in different locations.
  • Participate in project reviews as needed.
  • Travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board.
  • Minimum 5 years of technical design experience with high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects.
  • Technical design experience with physical/outdoor design of high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects.
  • Familiarity with NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, ASCE-113 and other industry standards.
  • Experience using design software like PLS-Tower, Mathcad Prime, AutoCAD, or MicroStation.
  • Working knowledge of AISC-360, ASCE-7, ACI-318, and other industry standards.
  • Experience with STAAD, RISA, MFAD, L-Pile, or equivalent software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem solving, and collaboration skills.
