Overview

The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) position is a full-time role on the 1st shift, responsible for supporting JARP Operations and Engineering by auditing welding standards, ensuring compliance with regulations, and mentoring new employees. The role requires frequent interaction with various stakeholders and aims to drive improvements in welding processes.

Responsibilities

  • Audit standards, specifications, techniques, processes, procedures, instructions, forms, and other documents related to welding processes.
  • Support Operations in the verification and visual inspection of welded products and processes.
  • Assist Engineering in understanding customer requirements and evaluating materials related to product performance.
  • Prepare technical reports related to welding as required.
  • Investigate customer complaints related to welding when necessary.
  • Support Root Cause Analysis for nonconformance with welded components.
  • Assist with nonconforming products as part of the Warranty Evaluation process.
  • Follow the internal Quality Management System audit program focusing on weld processes.
  • Work with the welding team on Continuous Improvement projects.
  • Identify nonconformities related to weld quality.
  • Perform random weld audits and verify personnel qualifications.
  • Identify the need for jigs and fixtures.
  • Maintain basic welding equipment and schedule maintenance.
  • Verify welding consumables shelf life.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years cumulative experience in similar roles, preferably in manufacturing or engineering.
  • Experience mentoring and training individuals and small groups.
  • American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credentials.
  • Desirable further studies include ASME endorsement, military welding code, Certified Process Analyst, and Six Sigma certifications.
  • Excellent technical drawing and blueprint interpretation skills.
  • Knowledge of PQR/WPS to AWS D1.1.
  • Working knowledge of NDT/NDE techniques.
  • Good strategic abilities and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong team working abilities and negotiation skills.
  • Goal-oriented with effective self-prioritization.
  • Excellent communication and technical presentation skills.
  • Strong computer literacy.
