Job Description

Overview

DISHER is partnering with a precision perforated tubing and welded assemblies manufacturer in Grand Rapids, MI, seeking a Welding/Manufacturing Engineer. This role focuses on optimizing welding operations and mentoring skilled welders while spending a significant amount of time on the production floor.

Responsibilities

  • Spend 80-85% of your time on the production floor supporting daily operations and troubleshooting welding challenges.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain welding processes for new and existing products.
  • Perform weld trials and process validation activities.
  • Mentor and coach welders, sharing your expertise to help them grow their skills and confidence.
  • Develop and maintain Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS) documentation with a focus on thin gauge and aluminum applications.
  • Manage welder qualifications and certifications to ensure compliance and readiness.
  • Design fixtures and optimizations tailored to thin gauge material welding.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives and recommend equipment or method enhancements.

Requirements

  • Bachelors in Welding Engineering or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a welding or fabrication environment.
  • Demonstrated hands-on welding knowledge and troubleshooting capability.
  • Deep expertise in TIG, spot, and projection welding.
  • Comfortable developing, updating, and troubleshooting Weld Procedure Specifications.
  • Desire to coach welders and develop their technical skills.
  • Ability to diagnose root causes and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Experience in continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to collaborate with production, quality, and leadership teams.
  • Must have the current and continuing right to work in the United States of America without restrictions or expirations.
