Overview

NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island is a 591-bed university-affiliated medical center offering sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic care across various specialties. The Engineer - Boiler Room position involves maintaining and repairing steam plant equipment, ensuring proper operation, and responding to service requests during evening shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, repairs, cleans and lubricates high-pressure steam boilers and all steam plant equipment.
  • Observes and monitors all gauges, meters and equipment operation, making repairs or adjustments as necessary.
  • Measures, monitors and maintains boiler water treatment chemical levels within prescribed program parameters.
  • Informs Foreman Boiler Room, Assistant Foreman Boiler Room, Chief Engineer or Director of Engineering of any emergency situations.
  • Completes all reports, operating logs and documents as required.
  • Monitors the proper operation of all physical plant equipment and systems during shifts.
  • Responds to all service requests from hospital departments.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 3 - 5 years experience in the operations and maintenance of high-pressure boilers.
  • Ability to read and write legibly and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Familiarity with safe operation and maintenance of power and hand tools.
  • Basic knowledge of electricity and electronics.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
