Overview

NBBB has been building boats on Whidbey Island since 1964 and is seeking a Structural Welder to weld structural portions of marine vessels. The role involves various welding operations to support the fabrication and assembly of marine vessels.

Responsibilities

• Weld out panels, assemblies, modules, and final build of vessels.
• Weld seams and skip welds for various joint types.
• Grind and prep weld seams for tacking and final inspection.
• Set up and operate MIG welders for watertight and skip weld patterns.
• Perform Air Arc operations to back gouge welds.
• Sub-arc large hull and deck plates.
• Clean, lubricate, maintain, and adjust equipment.
• Prepare metal surfaces using hand-operated equipment.
• Set up ventilation and lighting in confined spaces.
• Perform welds on various alloys including aluminum and stainless steel.
• Complete hundreds of inches of weld during an eight-hour day.
• Work as a team member and communicate effectively.
• Embrace safety culture and practice safe shipyard work.
• Develop and maintain constructive relationships with crew members.
• Share knowledge in the trade with other employees.
• Express ideas clearly, both orally and in writing.
• Perform other tasks as needed.

Requirements

• 3+ years experience as a Welder.
• Ability to read and interpret specifications and blueprints.
• Basic math skills.
• Good verbal communication skills.
• Experience working around heavy machinery.
• Ability to enter confined spaces using a respirator.
• Knowledge of shipyard safety practices and vessel terminology.
• High School Education or equivalent or vocational education.
• 2-G, 3-G, 4-G ABS Steel certification required.
• Knowledge of basic hand and power tools.
• Formal training in welding and related principles.
• Certified or certifiable in USCG or ABS welding.
• Ability to work overtime as necessary.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and work at heights of 60 ft.
