Overview

The Utilities Plant Maintenance Mechanic, Senior is responsible for advanced skilled/mechanical repair and maintenance of machinery and equipment at various water treatment facilities. This role involves leading a team, coordinating safe work activities, and ensuring the efficient operation of plant equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of mechanics in repairing and maintaining wellfield and water treatment plant machinery and equipment.
  • Assist supervisor in coordinating safe work activities with other divisions and contractors.
  • Monitor SCADA and telemetry systems, responding to alarms and generating reports.
  • Ensure the successful completion of work orders from the maintenance management system.
  • Operate a computer for asset management and GIS data entry.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and perform mechanical repairs on various water treatment equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and minor welding tasks.
  • Diagnose and repair plant equipment including pumps, motors, and control systems.
  • Maintain operation efficiency and safety of buildings and machinery.
  • Operate various machinery and tools related to maintenance activities.
  • Follow safety procedures and promote a safe work environment.
  • Monitor inventory levels and initiate requests for materials.
  • Review architectural and engineering drawings and technical manuals.
  • Complete various forms and reports related to work activities.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, employees, and the public.
  • Attend workshops and training sessions to stay updated on industry practices.
  • Perform on-call and overtime work as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Vocational/technical training in mechanical, piping, and water treatment system maintenance.
  • Three years of work experience in Public Water Treatment or Wellfields.
  • Possess and maintain a Florida Level III Water Distribution Operator License or a Water Treatment Plant Operator C License.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver's license within 14 days of hire.
  • Possess a valid Forklift Operator Certification or obtain it within six months.
