Factory NYC

Overview

The Factory NYC is a custom fabrication and production company in Brooklyn that builds and installs various physical objects for clients, including museum exhibits and brand activations. They are hiring a Production Estimator to determine the costs of building projects based on defined scopes.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings, specifications, and scope to identify undefined elements.
• Break down the scope into buildable components and estimate costs for each trade.
• Decide on the construction method, material selection, and whether to use vendors or subcontractors.
• Cost materials, machine time, vendor scope, logistics, installation, and strike.
• Monitor shop capacity and raise schedule risks to the Director of Production.
• Collaborate with department managers on larger jobs to validate build methods.
• Cost change orders with the same rigor as original estimates.
• Walk the estimate with production to ensure alignment with intentions.
• Maintain the estimating library and reconcile estimated costs with actual costs.

Requirements

• Seven or more years of estimating experience in custom fabrication, scenic production, or construction.
• Knowledge of fabrication across multiple trades, including carpentry and metalwork.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, models, and specifications.
• Judgment about capacity, workload, and lead times.
• Experience costing materials and vendor scopes.
• Comfort with production and quoting systems rather than spreadsheets.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple bids and deadlines.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, industrial design, or a related field preferred.

Additional Information

• This is a full-time, in-person position with core hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
• Extended hours may be required when bid deadlines occur.
