Overview

DIS-TRAN Steel is seeking an experienced Fitter II to join their team in Pineville. The role requires fitting steel layouts according to specifications, producing quality products with speed and accuracy, and training Fitter I individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Operates safety equipment and uses safe work habits.
  • Positions, aligns, and welds parts to form complete structures, following blueprints and layout specifications.
  • Recognizes, sets up, and operates hand and power tools common to the welding trade.
  • Examines steel or workpieces to ensure that specifications are met.
  • Moves parts safely into position using hoists or cranes.
  • Produces complete joint penetration welds that meet visual and ultrasonic inspection.
  • Reads and understands welding symbols.
  • Prepares all joints as required by AWS D1.1 structural steel welding code.
  • Welds components in flat position.
  • Operates manual welding equipment to fuse metal parts using the gas metal arc process.
  • Cleans and repairs welds using grinders and other equipment.
  • Examines work pieces for defects and measures with weld gauges.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and read a tape measure required.
  • Welding certification or prior welding experience required.
  • Capable of producing complete joint penetration welds that meet all visual and ultrasonic inspection.
  • Ability to produce high quality welds in all applications.
  • Ability to use standard set of weld gauges is required.
  • Ability to properly set, maintain, and troubleshoot welding equipment is required.
  • GMAW experience required.
  • Certifications or prior experience using moving machinery, such as cranes, preferred.
