Overview

Cowles Operating Company, a leading manufacturer in the heating industry, is seeking a Welder to join their team in North Haven, Connecticut. The Welder will be responsible for welding metal components together using MIG and TIG equipment to fabricate or repair products made from stainless steel and mild steel.

Responsibilities

  • Performs welding operations on a wide range of metals and thicknesses.
  • Involves precision assemblies involving a considerable amount of welding to high strength.
  • Regulates current and voltage for proper penetration and fusion of metals, selects electrode type and size.
  • Requires considerable skill to fuse dissimilar metals, obtain maximum weld strength and avoid distortion.
  • Skilled with MIG and TIG welding equipment.
  • Can plan work from drawings or other specifications.
  • Reports materials, equipment or process problems to supervisor.
  • Performs any variety of operations within the department to maintain workflow.
  • Maintains equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Follows prescribed safety rules and regulations.
  • Performs other similar or related duties as required or directed.

Requirements

  • Technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in English; Spanish language skills are a plus.

What you'll be running

This posting calls for MIG and TIG work. MIG (GMAW) feeds a continuous wire electrode through a shielding-gas nozzle. It lays down metal fast and is forgiving on clean material, which is why it dominates production and light fabrication work. TIG (GTAW) uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode with filler added by hand, giving the operator the most control of any process. It is slow, demanding, and the standard for stainless, aluminum, and anything where the bead has to look as good as it holds.
