Overview

The Manufacturing Technician provides technical support in the development and production of military soft goods such as upholstery, cushions, and parachutes. This role involves assisting in design, training staff, and ensuring quality in manufacturing processes at BAE Systems, a leading defense, aerospace, and security company.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and development of aircraft and military vehicle seating upholstery and cushions
  • Train Production department leads in the operation of various industrial sewing machines
  • Establish time standards
  • Develop flat patterns and templates for soft goods
  • Work with quality to resolve production issues and ensure customer satisfaction
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings as they pertain to sewing
  • Develop processes for cutting and bonding non-rigid polyurethane foams
  • Program fabric cutters and sewing machines

Requirements

  • 2+ years of manufacturing experience
  • Sewing knowledge
  • Familiarity with military standards for sewing materials
  • Experience in manufacturing using contact adhesives
  • Programming lasers and CNC fabric cutters using CAD software
  • Experience building and maintaining tooling
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues and adjust machine parameters
  • Experience setting up and operating industrial sewing machines
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings
