Job Description

Overview

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for keeping the hospital's physical structure and equipment in good repair, performing electrical work, mechanical repairs, woodwork, and painting, as well as preventative maintenance to ensure the upkeep of the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses electrical and mechanical device malfunctions.
  • Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment according to specifications.
  • Constructs, repairs, and maintains wooden structures using hand and power tools.
  • Applies paint, varnish, and other finishes to protect surfaces.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on equipment per facility schedule.
  • Fires boilers and controls steam generation for heating and machinery.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service and maintains confidentiality.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • One year previous experience as an engineer in plant operations.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to use sound reasoning and judgment to resolve issues.
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
  • Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only).
